Abstract

The carcinogenic effects of Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM), are briefly reviewed from old and recent publications in the technical literature. Some improvements within the engine construction, specially modifications to the engine design have been proposed by several engine manufacturers, in order to decrease as much as possible, within the engine itself, the particulate matter generation. Along with the engine manufacturers improvements, the oil companies have also put a substantial effort to improve both fuels and lubricants.
