Abstract
A theoretical and experimental study of SO% absorption and desorption by water drops H. Amokrane, B. Foudin, O. Higounenc, B. Caussade Institut de Mecanique des Fluides de Toulouse, URA 05 au CNRS, avenue du Professeur Camille Soula, 31400 Toulouse, France ABSTRACT A theoretical and experimental study has been carried out to describe the SO% absorption by water drops. In the first part, we present theoretical models for the gas absorption by water drops falling through a polluted atmosphere. For small drops, the modelization is based on the numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations to obtain the transient flow fields and the convective-diffusion equation to determine the concentration fields for different external concentrations. For large drops, the modelization is based on the scaling of interfacial processes. In the second part, an experimental device involving 5-m rain shaft is used to test our theoretical model of S02 scavenging. After various conta
