Abstract
ARGOS: a differential absorption lidar for the depth-resolving measurement of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and ozone U.-B. Goers, P. Bisling, J. Glauer, S. Kohler, W. Lahmann, C. Weitkamp, W. Michaelis GKSS-Forschungszentrum Geesthacht GmbH, W-2054 Geesthacht, Germany ABSTRACT The use of laser light absorption in conjunction with pulsed narrow-band sources allows for a remote, depth-resolving measurement of the most im- portant gaseous air pollutants with measurement ranges up to several km, sensitivities down to the few-ppb range and a minimum depth resolution of 15 meters. The Advanced Remote Gaseous Oxides Sensor (ARGOS), a differential absorption lidar system specifically designed for the measu- rement of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and ozone concentrations in the troposphere, is described. Examples of measurements of SO] and ozone over different terrains are presented. Also included are examples of emissions and transport values as well as measurements of emiss
