Universitaria, Mexico D.F., ABSTRACT Mexico is a developing country with 80 million people and great inequalities in wealth among its population. It is one of the most industrialized countries of the so called Third World. At the same time the country is depositary of a considerable biodiversity. Population growth, food demand and legitimate demands of a large part of its population for access to higher level of wealth, puts a considerable stress on its natural resources and biodiversity. Mexico has within its territory most of the world climates, impact of climatic change (rain patterns, food supply, energy needs, etc. ) may vary strongly from one part of the country to another.
