Abstract

Application of a three-dimensional wind interpolation model in Mexico City air quality studies A. Wellens, R. Aguirre Mexico ABSTRACT The Diagnostic Wind Model, developed by CALTECH, is adapted for its use in Mexico City air quality models. To avoid poor results due to the lack of measuring stations, two important changes are made: a vertical wind profile is supposed at several meteorological stations, depending on the available upper air data, the atmospheric stability information and the roughness observed at the station. The second change is the assignment of characterization factors to each station, to indicate how well the reported value represents the actual wind in a certain direction. INTRODUCTION Nowadays, air pollution is one of the most urgent problems in Mexico City, so the government has been forced to implement various control strategies even when its future effects were not well known beforehand.
