Abstract
After some clinical procedures in which a self expandable stent (Wallstent) has been implanted in a lower limb true and false aneurysm, it has been suggested to apply the stent to induce thrombus formation between the stent and the aneurysm wall. Eight patients were treated and in follow-up controls after a few months it was observed both thrombosis of the aneurysmatic sac outside the stent mesh and vessel patency. To evaluate the role of the stent and that of the modified local fluid dynamics in the thrombus formation mathematical simulations have been carried out. The fluid dynamic equations have been solved using the finite element method. Pulsatile blood flow has been considered. The results show the influ
