In 1945, towards the end of the Second World War, the ancient City of Dresden was destroyed by massive bombardments and much of its rich architectural heritage appeared to have been obliterated forever. Over the last half-century, however, Dresden has been lovingly reconstructed with the active collaboration of its citizens.
