Sven Erik Jørgensen was Professor Emeritus at the Department of Pharmaceutics and Analytical Chemistry in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark until his death in 2016.

His research interests included Systems ecology, Ecological modeling, Ecological engineering, Environmental science, and Environmental management of aquatic systems. He authored a numerous books, including Eco-Exergy as Sustainability (published by WIT Press in 2006), and wrote or co-authored numerous papers in his field. He also served as Editor-in-Chief for the Encyclopedia of Ecology (2004), as Editor-in-Chief of Ecological Modelling (1974), and as Distinguished Visiting Professor at Ohio State University (1991).

Prof Carlos Brebbia graduated at the University of Litoral, Argentina. He received his PhD at Southampton University, England in 1968 and worked at MIT, USA and the Central Electricity Research Laboratories, UK as well as the University of Princeton, USA.

Prof Carlos Brebbia was appointed Lecturer at the University of Southampton, UK in 1969 and a senior lecturer in 1976 before becoming a Reader in Computational Engineering. In 1979 he became Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of California at Irvine. He founded and was Chairman of Computational Mechanics and Director of Wessex Institute of Technology until his death in 2018.

Prof Carlos Brebbia wrote over 250 scientific papers, authored or co-authored 14 books and edited or co-edited over 500 other books. He was an internationally well-known specialist in numerical methods, finite and boundary elements and in the computer solution of engineering problems. Prof Carlos Brebbia founded several international journals and served as the Editor or co-editor of five scientific journals.  He carried out a great deal of consultancy work for the engineering industry as well as having participated in many international projects and conferences.
